Today, we had the pleasure of interviewing Mtdub Da Champ, an artist from Elkhart, Indiana. We asked him about his early influences and he mentioned that he started making music in 2005 and was influenced by 2Pac, Biggie, Ice Cube, Scarface, Nas, Jay Z, Ludacris, Jadakiss, and Busta Rhymes, to name a few. When asked about what skills he thinks artists need to be successful, Mtdub Da Champ mentioned talent, patience, love for the art, and work ethic.
We were curious about how he stays up-to-date with the latest music trends and found out that he mostly relies on streaming services and social media. When performing, Mtdub Da Champ uses techniques such as eye contact, props, and reaching out to the crowd to engage them.
The most rewarding part of being an artist, according to Mtdub Da Champ, is creating, recording, and putting everything together. He loves the reception of the finished product, whether good or bad, and making sure everything is of top-notch quality.
We asked Mtdub Da Champ how his content online makes him stand out as an artist and he mentioned that he doesn't tend to follow trends. He believes in being himself each and every time. When asked what makes him different from other artists, he shared that he doesn't write his actual lyrics down and that he's part of a select few that can do it consistently. He calls it an organized freestyle and believes it's an actual superpower.
Finally, we asked Mtdub Da Champ where we can find him when he's not making music and he mentioned that he can be found on most social media platforms such as Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram. It was great getting to know Mtdub Da Champ and we can't wait to see what he has in store for us in the future.
