Artist Name: Kai "Keysody" Turner
Genre: Hip-Hop, Rap
Can you tell us a little about your background and where you're from?
I was born in South Australia but spent most of my life on the East Coast from 10 and onward. Never really had a solid foundation but Meanjin (Brisbane) has always felt like home to me.
What do you do in your free time when you're not creating music?
I love keeping my mind, body and spirit healthy and in shape. So when I’m not creating music or working, I’m either at the gym, with my peoples or I’m practicing martial arts. I’m always adapting and evolving anything I put my mind to and actively work towards getting better and healing.
What inspired you to pursue music?
What really got me into music was listening to hip-hop at a young age. I always loved it but never thought of it as something I would do, this changed however when I heard more local acts that inspired me to tell my story. I was introduced to some local acts like ONEFOUR & Muks Died and I learned that just about anyone could create songs, but only a select few could create music. I threw myself into the deep end and 3 years later I’m working on my debut studio album.
Can you tell us about any upcoming projects you have in the works?
Right now, I’m sitting on many instrumentals from various different producers and a collab tape with a homie from New Zealand. I have at least three albums worth of content that I’m preparing; one project entirely produced by New York producer Fortes who has songs with Mach-Hommy/Tha God Fahim/Styles P/Your Old Droog etc. One project entirely produced by Argentinian producer Bishop One who is a very talented upcoming producer that I’ve always worked with and then there’s my Debut Studio Album that’s almost finished with production from many different people and a few surprise features.
Can you tell us about your latest single "I Know"?
My latest single titled “I Know” is one of the most deepest and vulnerable songs I’ve ever composed. It essentially serves as an autobiography of my life. I was blessed to work with Fortes on this one, this is the first song we ever created together. It has assisted vocals from Krizzy Bon a very talented friend of mine dear to me and was arranged by another talented friend in the local scene Sachém. This song is literally my life’s work and probably means the most to me out of all of the songs I’ve created.
Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians and artists?
Don’t let people box you in, no matter how much they try. And don’t sacrifice your dreams at any cost, you are only an extension of your desires and talents, never throw that part of yourself away.
Who is your dream collaborator?
Ever since I discovered him, Mach-Hommy has been a dream collaborator. I don’t believe that to be an easy goal given how mysterious he is and just based off his incredible artistry and talent. That being said I hope one day to catch his ears and if I’m up to the challenge and all things considered are lined up, I would love to have a song with my idol.
Can you tell us about some of your previous experiences in the music industry?
I managed to freestyle for Royce Da 5’9” s brother Kid Vishis, I have appeared on 2 separate local radio stations, interviewed on one, I work with artists from Australia to New Zealand to Montreal, Canada to New York & Atlanta to Argentina.
Keep Up With Keysody Here!
